Carlos Castro Arias

Born in 1976 in Bogota, Colombia
lives and works in Bogota, Colombia

Carlos Castro’s work usually consists of projects that involve different mediums such as painting, video, found objects and installation, allowing him to work a common subject from different perspectives. Through the appropriation and re-contextualization of images and objects, Castro explores parallel narratives to include elements that have been socially suppressed or commonly ignored in history. His work focuses on how certain icons are redefined in contemporary life when meet with supposedly undesirable or unrecognized sides, this is in other words, the point where “established“ and “clandestine” overlap.
