Gustavo Acosta

Born in 1958 in La Habana, Cuba
Lives and works in Miami, USA

The urban images present in my work are derived from the everyday, ordinary visual perspective. I strive to integrate these into a new (and not always clear) system, in which signs of ubiquity and temporality imitate the arbitrary procedures through which our minds and memories distort and magnify personal expectations and priorities. Through the use of these ideas, I can manipulate the pictorial illusion to create a form of visual fiction.

Studied at San Alejandro National School of Arts (1977) and Superior Institute of Art, Havana (1982). His work was awarded several times in nationals and internationals events as the First Havana Biennial, (1994). the Cuenca Biennial (Ecuador) 1991 and the Caribbean Biennial (Dominican Republic) 1992. He was part of the Cuban representation at the XX Sao Paulo Biennial (1989). Also participated in the First Biennial of the South, Panama City (2013).
