Luiza Baldan

Born in 1980 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Luiza Baldan has a MFA degree from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2010) and a BFA degree from Florida International University (Miami, 2002). Working in varied media, but especially in photography and text, the artist investigates the dwelling process by doing immersive residencies. Temporarily Baldan moves into an unknown house and develops a project as a response to the experience of living in a new context. In some cases, the addresses are chosen due to the architectural iconography and its impacts in the social urban history, such as Copan (Sao Paulo) and Pedregulho (Rio de Janeiro), both in Brazil. Some other cases, the apartments were proposed to Baldan as a challenge to engage facts and fiction in an original body of work.
