Herlyng Ferla

Born 1984 in Cali, Colombia.
Works and lives in Cali.

The work of Herlyng Ferla investigates the obsolescence of objects and the perception that we have of the transformation-ruin of matter, which comes hand in hand with it. However, for Ferla this change is not necessarily due to a decay but to a form of resistance proper to a matter that claim for a life that is no longer indebted to the object and its function.

Through a series of constructive operations that seek to respond organically to each object, Ferla allows the subsistence of these fallen objects destined to obsolescence. But the force of this second existence must not be sought in its newly acquired condition of aesthetic object, but in the fact that, freed from their previous notion of use, they acquire a value as mere presence, presence that allows us to search a series of micro-narratives about the transformation of the city.

Among his recent exhibitions are: Horas extra, MIAMI, Bogotá 2016; Acorazado Patacón, La Tabacalera, Madrid 2015; El cambio de todo lo que permanece (con La Nocturna), Pabellón Artecámara, ArtBo, Bogotá 2014; 6o Salón de Arte Bidimensional, Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño, Bogotá 2014; El hueco que deja el diablo, Sala de Proyectos del Departamento de Artes, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá 2014; La desilusión de la certeza o La ilusión de la incertidumbre, Pabellón Artecámara, ArtBo, Bogotá 2013; Construcciones del deseo, Bienal Internacional de Arte SIART, La Paz 2013; Sin título (individual), Lugar A Dudas, Cali 2013; Obras apócrifas, Museo de Arte Religioso, Cali 2013; Metafísica concreta (individual), Proartes, Cali 2012; ¿Qué cosa es la verdad?, 14 Salones Regionales de Artistas, Museo La Tertulia, Cali 2012; Despreciadores del cuerpo (individual), Galería Jenny Vilà, Cali 2011.
