Nicoykatiushka

Founded in 2003 in New York

nicoykatiushka (NyK) is a Brooklyn based collaborative created by Nicolas Arze and Katiushka Melo on June 20, 2003, day of their wedding. NyK’s artwork is structured upon a constant collaborative process in which the medium represented is secondary to the artistic process and experience. NyK have created multimedia installations that combine new technologies with traditional tools of video. nicoykatiushka’s work spans from choreographic interpretation to the use of appropriated material and experimentation in new mediums. Their work has been exhibited in the Americas, Europe and Asia, most recently at the  Palacio Cultural La Moneda, Chile; Osage Gallery, Hong Kong; Kuandu Museum, Taiwan; Royal Opera House with Tony Hornecker, London and Museo del Barrio’s (S) Files Bienal 2011 in New York. NyK were curators of the 798 Beijng Biennale in 2009, also curating various successful independent exhibitions in Chile, China and New York in order to create a network of communities between artists across the border.
