A Gentil Carioca Gallery

Founded in 2003 by Ernesto Neto, Laura Lima and Márcio Botner
Directed by Elsa Ravazzolo

A Gentil Carioca was founded on the 6th of September, 2003, by the three artists who run it until today: Marcio Botner, Laura Lima and Ernesto Neto.

Located in the historic center of Rio de Janeiro, more specifically in the region called Saara, the largest outdoor market in Latin America; A GENTIL was conceived in this melting pot in order to captivate and spread the diversity of art to Brazil and the world.

We believe that each work of art is a cultural particle with enough power to radiate culture and education. In the same way that history can be thought, forged, altered and documented; A GENTIL is a place where artistic or political contexts can be revitalized in many ways.

The gallery also expands the field of action of the arts as it stimulates the network of collectors and art lovers in general. It intends to enhance interaction with art, and intensify artistic and critical debate as knowledge of countless susceptibility of its thinking, its sagacity, its creation and transformation of a sense of meaning.
