Carolina Spielmann

Born in 1977 in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Lives and works in Paris, France

The story should not be told, but insinuated. The actions should not be explicit but suggested. The cutoff body parts are there for the viewer to imagine the rest of the character. With a Hitchcock influence in the framing, the situation is only implied. There is a feeling of stillness in the paintings, a sense of stopping time for a moment. In a way, it is almost a photographer’s view of reality done in a colorful cartoon style. From a conceptual and esthetical point of view, the work is very much linked to Pop Art with exalted colors and simple everyday imagery. There is an architectural structure in the painting given by predominant lines where colors lay on top. The bright colors in the paintings are related to my Latin origins were the effects of the light makes all shades more vibrant and intense. The one color structure relates to my German roots where everything has to be ordered in its place. I crop the picture changing the story. I stare at simple details making them scream with powerful tones of paint.
