Rosa Maria Unda Souki

Born in 1977 in Caracas, Venezuela.
Lives in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Works between Brazil and France.

What have I made and why?

During my college years and all over my subsequent career my thoughts and works were based on the memory and the everyday aspect of intimate spaces. As a consequence, actual living places or houses were the central line of my work. In that sense, “Living” is much more complex than to take possession of a personal space or a specific place. “To live” is to go through the objects, through the way of occupying spaces, the day-to-day actions. It is also a way to portrait the personal indelibly signs from someone’s intimacy. Just like negative picture.

The whole set of my work supports the idea in which home is the skin of the habitant and vice versa. It suggests that the house is constructed by a special concrete, consisted by all the residual presence and memories. This imperceptible special material can build a house into a continuous identity of construction, a memorial space called home.
